Saraburi Province

Saraburi province is located to the east of Ayutthaya province, around 100 km from Bangkok. Saraburi is believed to date back to the middle of the 16th century, during the rule of King Maha Chakkraphat. The province shares part of the Khao Yai National park and is administratively divided into 10 Amphoes and 2 King Amphoes : Muang Saraburi, Kaeng Khoi, Nong Khae, Wihan Daeng, Nong Saeng, Muak Lek, Ban Mo, Phra Phutthabat, Sao hai, Nong Don, King Amphoe Don Phut and King Amphoe Wang Muang.

Wat Phra Phutthabat
This temple is one of only six in Thailand to have the high temple rank of Ratchavoramahavihan. The Buddha footprint, which is said to have been found during the reign of King Songtham of Ayutthaya (1610-28), is enshrined in a mondop. The temple is the scene of two annual fairs: early February and mid-March.

Tham Krabok Buddhist Monk Sanctuary
This place is famous for its treatment of opium and heroin addicts. It was originally begun by Mae-chii Mian and has been run by Luang Phaw Chamrun Panchan since 1959. Thousands have been treated over the years and Phra Chamrun was awarded the Magsaysay Prize in 1975 for his work.
