The southern province of Phattalung is
over 840km from Bangkok. It shares it provincial borders with Trang, Satun, Songkhla. The
province is more peaceful than Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat, which have developed
large cities and industry. Phattalung is the only rice-producing province in the south.
The town of Phattalung is famous for its "hollow hill", a limestone cave
system that surrounds the town. It is also has the claim of originating the nang
thalung, the Thai shadow-plays.
Places of Attraction
Wat Kuhasawan
This temple is located in a large cave, Tham
Kuhasawan, to the west of town. Visitors can take the steps that lead around the cave to
the top of the hill, which is a good viewpoint for the surrounding countryside.
Wat Wang
Located on the road to Lam Pam, about 6k to the east of town.
The temple is over 100 years old and is the oldest in Phattalung. An original chedi is in
front of the temple and the closed bot contains some murals, believed to be over 200 years
old.
Lam Pam
At the end of the road leading east, you will arrive
at this lakeside resort. Although unspectacular it is a good place to relax on the beach
and enjoy some of the local seafood dishes.
